Have a weekend in this part of the Terre di Siena, in the medieval village of Montefollonico, 10km from Pienza and Montepulciano: Isabella and Claudio, Silvia and David are waiting for you - in their historic home from the end of the 16th century - with a warm family welcome. Vintage rooms and guesthouse await you with original early 19th century furniture. The valleys Valdichiana and Valdorcia, historic villages and towns, Brunello and Nobile wine routes, art and nature, the silent spirituality of the ancient abbeys and good food are intertwined together to give you a unique experience in the B & B 'il Glicine'.

The ancient historic residence in which the B & B 'il Glicine' operates is part of the noble house of Ansano Landucci, later property of the Martini di Cigala counts who kept it until '62, when it was bought by the current owners. As the heart of the vast estate of Martini counts, the building has undergone various changes over the centuries, and currently looks like a horseshoe-shaped structure with a central body, formerly the original keep, from which two side wings that form the courtyard stand out. Inside is closed on the front by a single continuous loggia, with a double tripartite facing that protrudes on the central street of the village. At the center of the loggia a luxuriant wisteria characterizes the structure, and forms the pride of the mountain community: hence the name of the B&B headquarters, which retains from its flowering the suggestion of a typically Tuscan beauty.

Rooms

The 'La Corte' Suite has a double view on the suggestive and flowered courtyard of Palazzo Landucci - Martini di Cigala, it gives the guests the taste and the pleasure of living in the ancient Borgo, with the discreet and typical sounds of life of the country, the bells of the Church of San Leonardo, the greeting of the people, the song of the swallows that nest under the arches of the ancient 16th century Loggia, but also the evocative silence that Montefollonico gives.

The refined rooms have been restored to their original elegance thanks to the careful restorative and conservative efforts, which has recovered the image of the ancient environment, with the terracotta floor, the stylish lighting systems, the furnishings with original furniture, how it should have appeared to visitors at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

The entrance reserved for customers opens into the central courtyard, and leads to the rooms located on the first noble floor of the east wing, with a private bathroom, with modern toilet and shower.

The only sign of modernity is the Wi-Fi network for Internet connection, latest generation tablets to watch movies and TV series, national and international news, newspapers, etc. etc.

The 'La Corte Rosa' Suite overlooks the suggestive 16th century courtyard. A suggestive lushing and climbing rose will invade your room with scents; the delicate embrace of the double wing stairs that are the entrance to Palazzo Martini Di Cigala will greet you like an old friend.

Experiences

On request, the Almasio-Placidi family offers the opportunity to take part in interesting organized activities, such as full immersion mini-courses on various topics, from design to embroidery and local walking itineraries. Every Sunday morning, from 9.30 to 10.30, there is a brunch with art as main topic, to examine the heritage of the surrounding area from a historical and artistic point of view; we can also suggest walking itineraries of the Terre di Siena and its monuments and natural beauties.

The 'emotional paths' of photo-scouting consist in visiting villages, farms, crops and ancient farmhouses, scrolling through the fascinations of an ancient and unique territory, which extends from the Val di Chiana to the Val d'Orcia, up to the slopes of the Amiata with its chestnut and beech woods. They are divided into four fundamental themes:

the Silence of the Abbeys: mysticism and culture in religious centers;

the Taste of Earth: resources and typical products of a quality tradition;

the walls' stories: frescoes and paintings from the 1200s to the 1500s;

Walking tour in Nature: the environment at eyesight.

At the end of the exits it will be possible to reconsider together the images captured by the cameras and evaluate these experiences, to deepen what was observed before.

Manual skills, which we often neglect due to daily rush, can be discovered again through interesting activities, such as ribbon embroidery.
